After an Instagram post by Blake Lively commenting on her booty ignited a firestorm of controversy on social media claiming that the caption was racist, the king of booty lovers is defending her.

Sir Mix-A-Lot has come to Lively’s defense after the actress posted a pic of herself from the front and back on Instagram with the caption, “L.A. face with an Oakland booty.”

The line references Mix-A-Lot’s 1992 hit song “Baby Got Back” and in an interview with the New York Daily News on Thursday, May 19, he said that he does not agree with her critics about the post being racially insensitive.

“I don’t get it at all. She’s saying she’s proud of her butt. I’m glad she embraced the look, because that’s what I wanted (with the song),” he said, adding, “All I would say to the critics is let’s better understand the context of what she said. If [what she’s] saying is, ‘I have this butt that Mix-a-Lot was talking about in ‘Baby Got Back,’’ that’s a good thing. She’s saying I’ve embraced this ideal of beautiful. However, if what she’s saying is, ‘I cannot believe I got this fat, this is horrible,’ then I agree with the critics.”

The rapper is glad the pregnant star did not remove her post after the controversy.

“I’m glad she didn’t pull it down,” he said. “I don’t think she should.”
