The last of the four swimmers involved with Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte in the armed robbery that wasn't a robbery in Rio, has finally released a statement about what he says really happened that evening.
While it's not so easy to believe Jimmy Feigen after he too "exaggerated" and "embellished" the story about what took place at that gas station in Brazil, what he is saying now does jibe with what his teammates Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger admitted to.
Feigen released a lengthy statement calling the childish decision they made that night to pee outside of the restroom "regrettable."
“We pulled over to a gas station to use the bathroom but the door was locked,” Feigen said in the statement. “We did not force entry into the bathroom, nor did we ever enter the bathroom. We did, however, make the regrettable decision to urinate in the grass behind the building.”
Feigen also confessed that he left out some of the facts in his story to protect Lochte.
“I omitted the facts that we urinated behind the building and that Ryan Lochte pulled a poster off the wall,” he said. “I realize I made a mistake by omitting these facts. I was trying to protect my teammates and for this I apologize.”
After speaking to authorities Feigen and Lochte were ordered to stay in Brazil, however, Lochte had already left the country at that point. Feigen's passport was seized, but given back to him and he was allowed return to the U.S. after he agreed to pay $10,800 to a Brazilian charity.
