James Corden is replacing host LL Cool J at this year's Grammy Awards
James Corden will be filling in some big shoes as the new host at the 59th annual Grammy Award show as LL Cool J is steps down from his five-year hosting run.
The star of The Late Late Show on CBS has gained viral popularity with his Carpool Karaoke segment. This segment has featured guest stars such as Justin Bieber, Adele, Madonna and Elton John.
The Recording Academy "couldn't be more excited" to work with Corden for this year's event.
According to Variety, the Recording Academy President, and CEO Neil Portnow states, “Thanks to Carpool Karaoke, we’ve all been on some incredible rides with James, and The Recording Academy couldn’t be more excited to welcome his passion and enthusiasm for music, both as an entertainer and a fan, to the Grammy stage on Feb. 12."
The President and CEO continued on to say, "He’s got big shoes to fill after the magnificent run we had with LL Cool J, but James Corden is a commanding, dynamic showman who, we believe, is perfect to host the Grammy Awards." Corden addressed this as an honor to be hosting the Grammy Awards.
Corden addressed hosting the Grammy Awards as an honor. The host stated, "It’s the biggest, most prestigious award show in music and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an incredible night.”
CBS Entertainment's executive vice president, specials, music and live events chimed in to say, "James Corden’s remarkable range of talents makes him a star on any screen and every stage.We see it every night on CBS, every day on YouTube and audiences are still talking about his acclaimed performance hosting the Tony’s last June. While the Grammys have been fortunate enough to have Lip Sync Battle's LL Cool J as their host, the awards show executive producer, Ken Ehrlich stated "James Corden is a captivating host, and I have no doubt that his musical background, personal charm, and comedic instincts will resonate with our audience. For the past five years, we’ve been fortunate to have had LL Cool J host our show, and I trust that James will bring the same professionalism and charisma to Music’s Biggest Night.”
Fans will just have to wait and see what Corden has in store for them. The Grammys is scheduled to be aired live from Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT.
Needless to say, this should be an extremely entertaining night.
