Italian native Emma Morano was believed to be the last surviving person born in the 1800's. Morano died Saturday, April 15.
Morano’s doctor, Carlo Bava, told the Associated Press by phone that Morano had passed away while sitting in her arm chair at home.
“She didn’t suffer. I’m happy she didn’t suffer but passed away that way, tranquilly,” Bava told AP.

Born Nov. 29, 1899, Morano lived during three centuries. She was the oldest of eight children.
Morano married Giovanni Martinuzzi in 1926, but separated from him the year after their only child’s death. Morano never married again and never had any more children. She worked in a jute factory and at a boarding school kitchen before retiring at age 75.
In 2015, Morano credited her longevity to raw eggs and no husband.
With her death, the world's oldest person has now been identified as 117-year-old Jamaican Violet Brown. Brown was born on March 10, 1900.
