The Foo Fighters took rickrolling to a new level by bringing the man himself, '80s phenom Rick Astley, on stage at the Tokyo Summer Sonic festival Sunday to perform his hit song "Never Gonna Give You Up."

Dave Grohl brought Astley on stage saying, "I just met him two minutes ago!"

The band teased the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from Nirvana, but quickly brought it over to the 1987 hit.

As he left the stage Astley said to the band, "You're nuts, you're fucking nuts."

He took to Instagram later to give the Foo Fighters a shout out:

This is not the first time Grohl et al did a rickroll, a practice in which someone introduces the song in a bait and switch. Rolling Stone has the clip on their list of best rickrolls ever.

Grohl explained to the crowd later, "We figured, you know what, why don't we just fucking rickroll their ass? Cause nothing says love like a little Rick Astley in your life, you know what I'm saying? Never gonna give his ass up!"
