Have you ever wondered what the origin story behind the Christmas-time phrase ‘Bah, Humbag!’ is? Well, we’ve got the movie for you.
Bleecker Street has released the first trailer for The Man Who Invented Christmas, because it’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit.
Along with the new trailer came a series of posters:
Dan Stevens stars as Charles Dickens, the author who wrote A Christmas Carol and created the iconic characters of Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim.
In The Man Who Invented Christmas, the Beauty and the Beast and Legion star struggles with writer’s block while creating his iconic tale — so much to the point that he begins to have visions of the characters he creating.
Christopher Plummer will be playing Scrooge — top hat and all — and Jonathan Pryce of Pirates of the Caribbean and Game of Thrones fame is cast as Charle’s father, John Dickens.

The film is being directed by Bharat Nalluri — a relatively new director who was nominated for an Emmy for his work on Tsunami: The Aftermath, but has yet to make a widely recognized film.
Seemingly, this is an altogether different project than Bennet Miller's upcoming A Christmas Carol adaptation, which still does not have a release date or any casting announcements.
While the trailer has similar vibes to Finding Neverland, Saving Mr. Banks, Stranger than Fiction and even Goodbye Christopher Robin — which comes out in just a few months — we’re holding out hope that The Man Who Invented Christmas will be enough of its own thing to make watching it worthwhile. With Plummer and Stevens involved, it’s got a chance at least.
