Star Wars: The Last Jedi is hitting theaters this weekend, and people are lining up in droves to try and get tickets. But, as it turns out, *people* aren’t the only ones hitting the theater this weekend — Carrie Fisher’s beloved dog, Gary, was taken to see The Last Jedi, and reportedly recognized Fischer while he was watching the movie.
A tweet from ABC reporter Veronica Miracle said “The late @carrieffisher’s dog Gary just watched #TheLastJedi! He sat on Fisher’s former assistant’s lap during the film. She said his ears perked up ever time she was on screen.”
If that’s not the cutest thing you’ve ever heard, we don’t know what is.
There was also an Instagram photo that was posted back in October when the Last Jedi trailer was first released, that shows Gary eagerly watching it. "Just watched the new trailer of The Last Jedi and my mom looks more beautiful than ever #garyloveshismom #garyloveshisfans #garyfisher #thelastjedi #starwars," the caption reads.
Gary, who is a French Bulldog, first became somewhat of a pop culture sensation two years ago, according to Cinema Blend, when Fisher was doing the press rounds for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fisher brought Gary with her while doing interviews and on to shows like Good Morning America. Someone also created a Twitter account for the young pup, @Gary_TheDog.
The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson also revealed that Gary actually appears in the new Star Wars film. He appears in the background of one scene, turned into a digital alien creature through the use of CGI.
Ever since Fisher tragically passed away last year around this time, on Dec. 27, Gary has been looked after by Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd. Lourd also has a dog of her own — a French Bulldog named Tina.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which sees Carrie Fisher return to the role of Princess Leia, is in theaters now.
