Gegege no Kitaro is an original manga from the 1960s which is known for its popularization of the folklore beings called Yokai, a class spirit-monster that the main characters belong to.

And with Dragon Ball Super now over, Gegege no Kitaro will now take over the timeslot that the Dragon Ball series occupied since 2015.

Toei Animation’s sixth TV anime of the franchise will air on Fuji TV in Japan Sundays at 9 a.m., starting on April 1 which is this upcoming Sunday. The supernatural series began as a manga in 1959 until 1964 with 15 combined volumes under the title Hakaba Kitaro.

These volumes became the focal point and template for what the late Shigeru Mizuki's manga mixture of ghost tribes, ghouls and other Japanese mythology has become. The series centers on a young Yokai Kitaro who strives for peace between the human world and the Yokai world.
