It was a close race at the box office this weekend but the horror film A Quiet Place dethroned Rampage as the box office champion.

A Quiet Place returned to the top spot by bringing in $22 million during its third weekend. The film passed $130 million domestically. The film is also Paramount Pictures highest grossing domestic release since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond which brought $158.8 million. The film’s worldwide gross stands over $200 million.

Rampage dropped to second place after dropping 41 percent during its second weekend. The film brought in $21 million and is approaching $70 million domestically. The worldwide box office just passed $215 million.

Amy Schumer’s new film I Feel Pretty opened in third place with $16.2 million. I expect this film to finish around $40-$50 million domestically. This is slightly lower than the openings of her last two films Snatched and Trainwreck.

Super Troopers 2 opened in fourth place with $14.7 million. This is an excellent opening for the long-awaited sequel to the 2001 classic. The original Super Troopers only brought in $18.5 million at the box office so the sequel will have no problem passing that.

The horror film Truth or Dare rounded out the top five with $7.9 million. The film dropped 58% during its second weekend and just passed $30 million domestically. I think this will be the final weekend this film is inside the top five.

The other new release Traffik opened in ninth place with $3.9 million. Ready Player One is approaching $130 million domestically after four weeks. Black Panther just crossed $680 million after ten weeks in release. An interesting note that with Infinity War opening next weekend we could have two films from the MCU in the top ten for the first since 2008.

It is certain that Avengers: Infinity War is going to crush the box office next weekend. We already speculated that it will have a record-breaking weekend. The real question is how much will the latest installment to the MCU bring in?
