"Ain't this what they've been ready for?'
Rapper Meek Mill was released from prison on Tuesday night and was brought directly to the Philadelphia 76ers playoff game.
Mill was serving a controversial two-to-four-year sentence for a parole violation from an incident that happened in 2008. For months, rappers and celebrities were outraged at the verdict. One supporter was Michael Rubin, the Philadelphia 76ers co-owner. He went and picked up the rapper before the game.
Mill was transported to the game at the Wells Fargo Center against the Miami Heat. Meek Mill received a standing ovation from the crowd while he donned a Joel Embiid jersey. He sat next to Rubin and comedian Kevin Hart.
Mill has always been revered by Philadelphia fans. In the past, Mill has continued to support Youth in Philadelphia especially, donating alongside Colin Kaepernick and visiting students in Boys' Latin and YESPhilly.
The 76ers took home the victory on Tuesday night, defeating Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat 104 -91, clinching their first playoff series victory in six years.
Celebrities and athletes poured out their support for Meek Mill and applauded the community to come together in support of the town and the rapper.
Joel Embiid said after the game, "I was just excited that he got to witness this because he's always represented the city, and he loved this city so much." He embraced the rapper after the series-clinching victory.
Co-owner Rubin said, "It was like this mass happiness, hysteria. The city's so excited to have him. The team's so excited."
Meek Mill retweeted his statement following the release.
Mill: "I look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career."
The city of Philadelphia is ringing with joy.
