Looks like Maeve isn't going anywhere in Season 2...
Thandie Newton, who plays Maeve in Westworld, is the next actress who is finally getting the paycheck that she deserves as she announced she’ll be making the same amount of money as her male co-stars during the shows third season.
“They’re all happening right now, and yeah, we’re equal across the board,” Newton said via Vanity Fair. “It’s really exciting. It’s unprecedented. It’s — goodness; it shatters so much calcified pain, resentment, frustration. It just shatters it.”
Newton also said that she no longer plans to take on any assignment in which she would make less money than any male co-star. “F*ck that,” she said via Entertainment Weekly. “It literally sets a precedent, and [HBO is] leading the way, which is amazing.”
This comes just a few days after Newton’s Westworld co-star Evan Rachel Wood, who plays Dolores (and is also the best part about the entire show), announced that she confronted HBO about the differences in pay.
“I’ve been paid the same for years, so I feel like I’m making the same as other people that I know for doing the same work,” Wood said via The Wrap. “And it was like, ‘Oh this feels nice.’ I feel a little less like, ‘I’ll just take what I can get. I’m just happy to be here.’”
Which is exactly how both Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton should feel because there would be no Westworld without either of them. The fact that it even took them this long to deserve equal pay is completely ridiculous.
The second season of Westworld returns to HBO on April 22. Newton can also be seen in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, playing the character of “Val” (we don’t know who that is either).
