We all knew that Avengers: Infinity War was going to win the box office this weekend. The film is continuing its record setting performance.
The film brought in $112.4 million during its second weekend and passed $450 million domestically after only being released for nine days. Infinity War delivered the second largest opening weekend over only behind 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The film brought in $275.1 million at the international box office and has now passed $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office.
It took the film 11 days to cross $1 billion worldwide which is the quickest in history and is the sixth Marvel film to do this and the 17th time Walt Disney studios has accomplished this. I still predict this film will be the highest grossing film of 2018.
The romantic comedy remake Overboard starring Anna Faris opened in second place with $14.8 million. A decent opening considering the heavy competition the film was going against and the negative reviews the film has been receiving. I predict this film finishes somewhere between $40-$50 million domestically.
A Quiet Place drops one spot to third place with $7.6 million and is now approaching $160 million domestically. The film is also quickly approaching $260 million at the worldwide box office.
I Feel Pretty also dropped one spot to fourth place with $4.9 million. The film is approaching $40 million domestically. This is right about on track with how I projected this film was going to perform at the box office.
Rampage rounds out the top five with $4.6 million. The film is approaching $85 million domestically and the film is quickly approaching $380 million at the worldwide box office.
The other two new wide releases both opened inside the top ten. Tully opened in sixth place with $3.2 million. Bad Samaritan opened in tenth place with $1.8 million.
Black Panther ($3.1 million), Truth or Dare ($1.9 million) and Super Troopers 2 ($1.8 million) round out the rest of the top ten.
I expect Infinity War to win the box office for the third straight weekend during Mother’s Day weekend as we only have two new wide releases including the thriller Breaking In starring Gabrielle Union.
