Donald Glover debuts new single, 'This is America' on SNL, releases the music video.
Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, debuted his newest song last night while working a double shift as Saturday Night Live's host and musical guest. The intense music video was also released, directed by Hiro Murai.
The politically driven "This is America" serves as exactly what the song sounds like. A commentary on the current political state of our country. The video involves a shirtless Glover, running for his life, shooting a guitarist and a choir, and lighting a joint. The lyrics are equally as powerful, saying:
"Yeah, this is America / Guns in my area / I got the strap / I gotta carry 'em"
This song is Glover's first single since "Terrified" in 2017, a song from the Grammy-nominated record Awaken, My Love!
Glover's new music is one of the many projects he has going right now. He also plays Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, hitting theaters May 25. He also stars in Atlanta, the FX show he created, which has it's season 2 finale on May 10.
