We got a first look at John Malkovich in the iconic role of Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie’s beloved Belgian sleuth—and fans had plenty to say about his mustache.
Disappointed fans took to Twitter to air their grievances with Malkovich’s prim, British facial hair. In all his stories, Poirot’s mustache is just as ostentatious as the man himself.
The character of Poirot took inspiration from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, but he took on a warm and charming quirkiness off his own. Malkovich’s Poirot looks a bit Holmesian, a bit too British and a bit too serious; but so far, we only have a still to judge from.
Admirers' Buzzing Continues
Fans remain excited for Malkovich’s portrayal, even if hair and makeup didn’t get the memo. Malkovich is set to star in an adaptation of one of Poirot’s most famous stories, The ABC Murders. The cast also includes Rupert Grint, Shirley Henderson, Kevin McNally, Gregor Fisher, Jack Farthing, Tara Fitzgerald and Andrew Buchan. Shooting is currently underway for the project. Amazon Prime Video will air the project in the U.S.
