Annabelle is getting yet another sequel, as Warner Brothers made the announcement at Comic-Con that Annabelle 3 is officially green-lit.
Gary Dauberman, writer for the first two Annabelle movies, It and The Nun, will be making his directorial debut with Annabelle 3.
What’s really exciting, though, is that Annabelle 3 will be set long after the events of the first two Annabelle movies, as it will see the cursed doll in the hands of Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Fans of the first Conjuring will remember that the paranormal investigator couple took the cursed doll out of some sorry souls hands and placed it in their room full of other haunted artifacts. Annabelle 3 is said to pick up shortly after that, as the story will revolve around the doll messing with the Warrens' 10-year-old daughter Judy.
Night at the Museum is also being referenced when it comes to Annabelle 3, as other objects inside the Warrens' house of horrors will apparently be brought to life along with Annabelle.
The announcement itself of an Annabelle 3 doesn’t come as a huge surprise — Warner Bros. is making a killing with these Conjuring extended universe films, with Annabelle: Creation pulling in $306 million.
For the first time since the first one, I’m actually slightly interested to see an Annabelle movie. I’m keeping that excitement in check, as I hated the first Annabelle and, while it was a major step up, thought Annabelle: Creation was nothing more than passable. Yet, seeing the Warrens return and actually getting to explore that creepy room they have sounds like good, scary fun to me, so let’s see what Dauberman can do in the director’s chair.
That excitement might change after I see The Nun — either for the better or the worse, as the Conjuring spinoffs don’t have a great track-record — but consider me moderately interested for now.
