A trailer released for The Miseducation of Cameron Post, based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Emily Danforth, delves into the waters of gay conversion therapy in 1993.
Cameron Post, played by Chloe Grace Moretz, is a teen girl sent to God's Promise, a Christian conversion therapy center, after she is caught kissing another girl by her conservative aunt. Cameron has trouble adjusting to the off-putting practices, including uncomfortable therapy sessions and prayers. However, she forms a friendship with fellow camp-goers Adam (Forrest Goodluck) and Jane (Sasha Lane).
This film won a Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival, according to the Huffington Post, and already has an 83 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
FilmRise won the North American distribution rights in March, despite the film premiering at Sundance back in January, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It was surprising that this film took two months to sell, despite an early positive response.
Directed by Desiree Akhavan, the film releases August 3.
