Candice Glover and Kree Harrison battled it out for the last time on Wednesday in Idol’s first girl versus girl finale since season three. The show once again had them sing three songs each, with the three themes being songs chosen by Idol creator Simon Fuller, their single they would release if they win the show and their favorite song of the season.

Round One – Simon Fuller’s choice

Harrison sings “Angel” to start the night off and Glover sings “Chasing Pavements.”

The judges comment after both sing, and Mariah Carey says, “I’m so proud to have been part of particularly this season because this talent is so magnificent, it’s of a level that’s just mind boggling. And I have to say that it’s really refreshing and I’m proud of America to see the votes go in the direction that they’re going. They’re different genres, but they’re at the top of where they need to be as singers and performers and artists.” Meanwhile, Randy Jackson wasn’t crazy about the song choices. He says, “’I don’t know if either of these songs where the right songs that I would have chosen for them because they were both a little sleepy. But I have to give the edge of round one to Candice because at least she took a song and tried to make more of it and had some interesting choices.”

Round Two - Their single should they win

Harrison’s single is titled “All Cried Out” while Glover’s is titled “I Am Beautiful.”

About Harrison’s performance, Nicki Minaj says, “I love her composure, I love how understated it was. This song made her reach down in the gut more than ever before.” Keith Urban also adds, “In the beginning of the show you said it was country versus soul, but for me its soul versus soul.” After Minaj says she loved Glover’s song because of how meaningful it was, Urban jokes, “It fit her like a glover.” They then disagree on who they believe won the round, as Minaj goes with Glover and Urban goes with Harrison.

Round Three - Favorite song of the season

Harrison decides to sing “Up to the Mountain,” which she last sang during Vegas week. Minaj says, “I’m so glad you did that one. The excitement, that energy is so uplifting. I loved it even more than the single performance, because it was so rich. It showcased your beautiful voice and soul.” Jackson adds, “That’s a winning performance right there. That’s best performance of the night. Keith said you have soul, you do have it. Never be afraid to show that.” Carey then says, “In general, you have something special, Kree. You both do. It’s going to be very hard for America to choose.”

Glover then finishes the night by singing “I Who Have Nothing.” Urban says, “Oh, my gosh. It’s just crazy. You’re such a powerhouse singer. That song is like a planet exploding to life. It’s just incredible.” Jackson then says, “This is one of the greatest singing competitions. I know for sure that girl can plum flat out sing. You shot this whole night to another level and that’s what I’ve been waiting on. It’s about singing and you got it all.” Carey also praises her, saying, “What you have is the innate ability to take any song and turn it into a vehicle for that amazing voice that nobody can deny.”

The night also featured Carly Rae Jepsen, who performed her new single “Take A Picture.” Who do you think is taking home the Idol crown on Thursday? Let us know in the comments below.
