Fox and NBC made some early decisions on several pilots Wednesday afternoon. While it was mostly good news for production crews working on Fox pilots, NBC dealt bad news to several actors and writers on their pilots. The peacock also cancelled its midseason drama Deception.
Let’s start with Fox. According to The Wrap, four major dramas have received orders.
Almost Human is the new pilot from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and stars Karl Urban as a Los Angeles cop in the future and Michael Ealy as his robot partner.
Greg Kinnear comes to network TV with Rake, a pilot that Sam Raimi is directing. The Little Miss Sunshine actor plays a skilled lawyer with a self-destructive personality.
The other two dramas are the gang task force series Gang Related with terry O’Quinn and RZA and Sleepy Hollow with Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane.
Later, Fox picked up several sitcoms as well, notes Deadline. Dads stars Giovanni Ribisi and Seth Green, while Andy Samberg’s pilot has now been retitled Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The pilot with former Law & Order: SVU star Christopher Meloni, titled Surviving Jack, was picked up, as was Us and Them with Alexis Bledel and Jason Ritter. Enlisted is an army comedy with Geoff Stults. All five shows got 13-episode orders.
NBC didn’t have any good news to dish out, unlike Fox. EW reports that they cancelled Deception, its mid-season attempt at a soapy, prime-time drama. The show averaged just 4.9 million viewers and a 1.8 18-49 rating.
The network passed on a few interesting pilots, including Ellie Kemper’s Brenda Forever and Hatfields & McCoys. The other NBC pilots that are now dead are Joe, Joe and Jane, Drop Off, Holding Pattern, Bloodlines, 6th Gun and Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives.
Deadline also reported that ABC’s American remake of the British series Spy is dead. CBS has already picked up Chuck Lorre’s Mom.
The networks host their upfront presentations next week, so check back for news on their announcements.
