Dallas Buyers Club is expected to draw Matthew McConaughey the first serious Oscar buzz of his career and fans will get to see his incredible transformation in November. Focus Features announced on Monday that it is bumping the film’s release date up a month.
Universal’s indie label acquired the film back in April. It tells the true story of Ron Woodroof, a Texas man diagnosed with HIV and is forced to smuggle drugs into the U.S. in order to treat the disease. The rest of the cast includes Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner. It was directed by Jean-Marc Vallee.
McConaughey worked on the film last winter and was seen at his ‘absolute lowest weight,’ looking gaunt when he made appearances for Magic Mike.
The actor took on more serious roles last year and Dallas Buyers Club is expected to bring him his first ever Oscar nomination. He also has a supporting role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Focus had planned to release the film on Dec. 6, but have decided to avoid the deluge of other Oscar hopefuls and pushed the release up to Nov. 1. The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
IndieWire notes that Entertainment Tonight got the first look at the film, but Focus hasn’t released the first official trailer yet.
