April Fool’s Day might be over a month away, but that’s not stopping Netflix from making a parody commercial that’s already gone viral. The commercial promotes a “Drome 2 Home” service, mocking Amazon’s ambitious plan to deliver packages by drone.
The commercial is just over a minute and Netflix’s General Manager of the DVD division, Hank Breeggemann, talking about the service. It can apparently deliver a DVD to your home right after you put it in your queue.
“Unlike other companies trying to rush unproven technology to market, we have literally spent days working out most of the bugs,” the company claims, notes The New York Times. It then shows people in cubicles trying to control the drones. One isn’t so successful and one explodes. Another starts stalking a woman.
Amazon’s Jeff Bezos announced the widely mocked plan for drone delivery during a 20 Minutes interview in December. He claimed that the service could be running by late next year and, if you live near one of Amazon’s distribution centers, you could get your order in 30 minutes.
