After devoting so much time to Marvel’s Ant-Man, director Edgar Wright surprised everyone by leaving the project. Now that the dust has settled, the Shaun of the Dead filmmaker has reportedly found another project to pique his unique interests.
Baby Driver, a script he wrote, is now being put together at Working Title Films. Deadline describes it as a mix of crime, action, music and sound. At this moment, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost - the stars of Wright’s Cornetto trilogy - are not linked to the film.
According to Variety, Wright is working on the script solo. Tim Bevan, Nira Park and Eric Fellner are producing.
Back in May, Wright abruptly left Ant-Man with Paul Rudd over creative differences, despite shepherding the project along since 2006. He was eventually replaced with Peyton Reed, who is best known for Yes Man and The Break-up. Apparently, Reed’s experience in the romantic comedy genre makes him a good replacement for the one-of-a-kind Wright.
Baby Driver could be Wright’s first film since he ended the Cornetto trilogy last year with The World’s End. Variety notes that he has also been linked to Disney’s The Night Stalker, which currently has Johnny Depp as the star.
