May the Force be with Los Angeles come May 4, 2020, as that is when George Lucas' museum will be completed.
The board of directors for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art announced the news on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
"After extensive due diligence and deliberation, the Board of Directors of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is pleased to announce plans to build the museum in Exposition Park in Los Angeles," the statement read.
"We have been humbled by the overwhelmingly positive support we received from both San Francisco and Los Angeles during our selection process," the board of directors stated. "Settling on a location proved to be an extremely difficult decision precisely because of the desirability of both sites and cities."
The museum, reportedly a $1 billion project, will house the filmmaker's rare collection of Star Wars memorabilia and other film pieces.
Lucas had initially showcased two proposals: one of a museum in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park and one of a museum in San Francisco’s Treasure Island.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti quoted Yoda in expressing his gratitude over Lucas' choice in selecting the City of Angels for the museum.
"Do or do not—there is no try. Today, we did it," Garcetti said.
However, the mayor did emphasize that it wasn't just a Stars Wars museum. Reports show that Norman Rockwell, Edgar Degas and Andy Warhol pieces will be added to the museum as well.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ma Yansong will be the overseeing architect for the project that will bring 1,500 jobs in building the museum. That doesn't count the 350 jobs that come once the museum is finished.
