Statue unveiled in England in honor of David Bowie was vandalized the next day.
On March 25, 2018, the town of Aylesbury, England unveiled a statue in honor of David Bowie.
The statue commemorates the many of Bowie's artistic identities. Created by Andrew Sinclair, the statue depicts an older David Bowie looking over younger Bowie, in his Ziggy Stardust era - which was debuted at an Aylesbury concert in 1975.
The sculpture also features other personas of David Bowie including Aladdin Sane, the Goblin King, Lazarus and more.
Unfortunately, less than forty-eight hours after the unveiling of the statue, the figure was vandalized.
"Feed the homeless first" was scrawled across the memorial in spray paint.
Steve Hogarth, who unveiled the statue expressed his heartbreak due to the vandalism.
“It’s with a heavy heart and despair I hear that within 48 hours someone has defaced Andrew Sinclair’s breathtaking David Bowie double statue,” the lead singer of British rock band Marillion said.
“Such a shame. Hopefully it can be cleaned up … [And] hopefully this fabulous work of art will give people a reason to come to Aylesbury for many years to come. It’s worth the trip.”
Music promoter and the brains behind the art told BBC: "There is a webcam on it 24/7 so whoever did it, we have got them on webcam."
Locals gathered to help clean up the statue in order to preserve the piece of art.
