Prepare yourself to explore a galaxy far, far away.

Video game developer Electronic Arts (EA) is looking at developing an open-world Star Wars game.

In a job opening posted on their website, a job opening for Lead Online Engineer was posted with the description "lead a team to deliver Online features for a Star Wars Open World project," according to flickeringmth.com. The description was taken down and there is now no mention of open world.

EA was the studio behind the last two Star Wars games to grace video game platforms, Battlefront and Battlefront II. Both games were met with wide criticism, the second one especially for its loot crate system that gave an unfair advantage to players who paid extra.

Currently, no specific Star Wars project is on the radar at least until 2020 when a Star Wars game released by Respawn Entertainment is slated for release. No word on Battlefront III has hit either, making Lucasfilm very nervous and rumored to be unhappy with EA.

It's unlikely that Lucasfilm will cut ties with EA now, especially if there is an open-world concept in the works for the Star Wars Universe.

Before EA had the rights to the Star Wars franchise, LucasArts was the company responsible for countless successful Star Wars games including the original Battlefront games: Republic Commando, Starfighter, Knights of the Old Republic and the initial Lego Star Wars games. The company disbanded in 2013, due to chaos and indecision at the executive level.

Fans of the Star Wars universe can hold on to some excitement that they can travel around the galaxy in a future open world game.
