Prince Philip has been admitted to a hospital in London for hip surgery, according to a statement released by the family.

"His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow."

Prince Philip, 96, missed church services on Easter morning alongside his wife of 70 years, Queen Elizabeth.

In June 2017, the icon was hospitalized for two days after an infection. Following his retirement from the public last year, Prince Philip has been unable to attend several events due to his ailing health. In March, he missed Prince Andrew's appointment as Colonel of Grenadier Guards, where he would have ceremonially handed over the role.

Prince Philip was the longest-serving consort in history.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be wed on May 19 at St. George's Chapel.

We wish Prince Philip good luck on his surgery tomorrow and a speedy recovery.
