Jerry Seinfeld has a different opinion of Roseanne's firing from her sitcom.
Seinfeld talked to Entertainment Tonight Monday, June 25, about Roseanne Barr's racist tweet, which got her canned from her ABC sitcom.
Since then it was replaced by The Conners, a spinoff of Roseanne without her.
Seinfeld said, "I didn't see why it was necessary to fire her. Why would you murder someone who's committing suicide?"
He also added his surprise, "But I never saw someone ruin their entire career with one button push. That was fresh."
In addition, Jerry Seinfeld thinks Roseanne should not get her job back, but there should be another Roseanne to replace her character, stating:
"I think they should get another Roseanne."They brought Dan Conner back, he was dead and they brought him back. So, why can't we get another Roseanne? There's other funny women that could do that part. You need to get the comic in there. I hate to see a comic lose a job."
It's interesting that he is stating it's the character and not the person he misses more, and certainly there are many capable women who could replace Roseanne.
But his response to Roseanne was not what the conversation was about. Seinfeld had been speaking to ET about the new season of his show on Netflix, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee when the conversation turned to the chaos that swarmed Barr's tweet.
Aside from that drama, Seinfeld also talked about the many A-list guests (including Ellen Degeneres) which appeared in this season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
Specifically referring to the conversation with Degeneres he said, "It was fun. And then we had an interesting conversation about penises, but I'll let you watch that. But it's clean, believe it or not. ... Yeah, we started discussing, 'If you're a lesbian, what do you think of the penis? Is it something you hate? Or are you OK with it?' She said she was OK with it. She just says she doesn't really feel one way or the other about it, and I said, 'That's the way I feel.'"
Of the importance of his show overall, Seinfeld stated, saying, "I felt like there's another world to being a comedian that the public never sees and it's not on a talk show and it's not in some of these other interview shows that are on TV. I thought I gotta get them out of the package, out of the wrapper and just go to a coffee shop and hang out and then you see the real person."
This, of course, relates to Roseanne as Seinfeld has had a lot of experience talking to the real face behind the comedians as they drink good coffee while taking a drive.
