We live in a strange, strange world.
15 years after making their unforgettable and now iconic debut together in The Room, Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero have decided to make another movie together, Best F(r)iends, which now has its first trailer. Get ready, because this one’s a doozy.
Best F(r)iends is a noir-thriller (maybe? Does anyone actually know anything about what this movie really is?) about two best friends, of course, played by Wiseau and Sestero. Sestero is a drifter from out of town who meets a mortician (Wiseau) who then teaches him how to unravel an underground enterprise. And apparently, there’s something to do with an ATM in all of this too.
“I have a good story for you,” Wiseau says in the trailer. “A familiar story. One guy meets another in the big city. They have a dream, but something change. Greed, hatred and jealousy. You understand the words?”
Yup, still not convinced that this isn’t really just a sequel to The Room, despite Justin MacGregor being the director instead of Wiseau.
Speaking of The Room, Paul Scheer — who starred in The Disaster Artist, the James Franco film that depicted the filming of The Room — is in this movie.
That’s not even the craziest part. The film was written by Sestero who, according to Screen Rant, felt bad for Wiseau after seeing an early cut of The Disaster Artist. He decided to write a new movie for the two of them to star in. It’s also reportedly based on a road trip that Sestero and Wiseau took together back in 2003.
“Any time after The Room, people would just hire him as a joke,” Sestero said to Newsweek. “Best F(r)iends is a chance for people to see him as a serious actor in a dramatic, experimental role.”
We’re not done yet. The film is being released in two separate parts — Best F(r)iends: Part 1 will be released in 600 theaters nationwide on March 30 and April 2, 2018. Best F(r)iends: Part 2 will play on June 1 and June 4. Tickets are already on sale now.
I don’t know about you but I have, like, a million different questions. How did this movie get made? Are we actually going to see quality cinema ( The Room is its own kind of quality, but I think you know what I mean) from Tommy Wiseau? What is this movie actually about? How big of a factor did The Disaster Artist play into getting this movie made?
And that’s only the tip of the iceberg. I’m sure you all have questions yourself so watch the trailer here and then sound off in the comments below.
