The 70th annual Emmy Award nominations are out!
The Handmaid's Tale, Game of Thrones, This Is Us... Most Emmy Award nominations for shows are not surprising in the least.
It's the lack of nominations for some actors in the hottest shows that is more surprising. For example, the women of This Is Us were completely looked over. Dakota Fanning didn't get a not for The Alienest. Little things like that.
What is interesting, despite some of our favorite women not being nominated, is how many different shows are represented by women. Check out the actress categories and you'll see, other than The Handmaid's Tale (which has a huge female cast), there are few shows repeated in each category. This is very different than the men's categories.
And, speaking of amazing women, Sandra Oh has become the first woman of Asian descent to be nominated for an Emmy for Lead in a Drama Series. She was previously nominated in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role as Dr. Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy. She has never won an Emmy.
Not to be ignored, Kenan Thompson received his first Emmy nod after 15 years!
