The fan-casting pays off.
It’s a good day for all you Stephen King fans out there: The It sequel has got some exciting casting news.
Jessica Chastain, who has been rumored for It ever since it was announced this movie was being made, has officially signed on to play the adult version of Beverly Marsh — the Losers Club’s lone female who has quite the tragic backstory (if you read the book you know that what’s coming for Bev ain’t gonna be pretty).
Rumors are now also speculating as X-Men actor James McAvoy and comedian Bill Hader are in talks to take on adult roles of the Losers Club as well.
McAvoy would play Bill Denbrough, the leader of the Losers Club who grows up to become an author. Hader would play Richie Tozier, the fast-talking trash-mouth who becomes an impressionist and radio DJ.
In the first It movie, Beverly Marsh was played by Sophia Lillis, Bill Debrough by Jaeden Lieberher and Richie Tozier by Finn Wolfhard. The children are all expected to return, in some format, for the It sequel.
The only other casting news we know about It: Chapter 2 is that Bill Skarsgard will be returning to play Pennywise. Andy Muschietti will also be returning to direct.
“The thing I want to bring in the next film that I couldn’t do here is the dialogue between the two timelines,” Muschietti in an interview with Variety. “That was so important in the book and we didn’t get to explore that here, but I wanted to keep the story of the kids as pure and without interference as I could. The dialogue between those two timelines with all those flashbacks is so important to the book that I want to bring it back.”
From all accounts, this seems like great casting. Fans had been hoping Jessica Chastain would be the one to take on Bev, and James McAvoy and Bill Hader seem like they could fit into these roles perfectly.
It: Chapter 2 is set to be released on Sept. 9, 2019.
